If you want to improve local news, get programming that your community wants, stop excessive advertising and support independent media, the most effective thing you can do is get involved with a local media activist organization.
Contact one of these local groups to learn how you can get involved, volunteer, or support their projects.
- Find local groups working on media issues. You can find groups working in your town, state or region, by searching the Free Press database by location or issue.
- Challenge a local broadcast license. Take a moment to look at Free Press' suggestions to challenge broadcasting licenses. Check out the license renewal deadlines for various stations in your state.
- Support community broadcasting. Local noncommercial TV and radio stations are always looking for volunteers, allies and other forms of support. Contact yours to get involved.
- Find local community radio stations with the National Federation of Community Broadcasters directory
- Public access cable TV stations provide a venue for local productions, civic affairs and free-speech programming in many towns. See if there's one in your area with the Alliance for Community Media's member list.
