A new coalition representing millions of Americans released the "Bill of Media Rights," (PDF) demanding a seat at the table as Congress makes crucial telecommunications policy choices.
In a press conference on Monday, May 9, 2005 Consumers Union, along with a coalition of more than 100 consumer and public interest groups, released the Bill of Media Rights. The Bill of Media Rights lays out main reasons why the public has a right to be involved in the decision process as Congress makes telecommunications policy choices.
Common Cause also released a new study, "The Fallout From the Telecommunications Act of 1996: Unintended Consequences and Lessons Learned," showing how the Telecommunications Act of 1996 failed to deliver on its promises of lower prices, competition and increased diversity of viewpoints.
