Take sides in policy debates: national phone companies, local Bells and new phone-by-Internet providers are promoting new rules that will increase local phone bills.  In addition to Consumers Union, other nonprofit organizations are standing up to big industry and phone companies around the country, fighting for consumer rights.  You can help by signing petitions, writing letters, becoming a member, or volunteering and offering your support. 

  • Keep Universal Service Fund Fair Coalition: Low-income and fixed-income consumers could lose their phone service if the FCC changes their policy.
  • For groups working in Indian Country: Contact the Native Networking Policy Center to learn how to support their work with tribal governments dealing with the critical telecom issues.  Native communities have the worst phone infrastructure in the US, more than 30% of American Indian households have no phone service at all.
