Low Power FM radio (LPFM), is the newest use of the airwaves for small community radio. Thousands of organizations have applied for licenses at the FCC with hopes of offering community-based radio services in a three-to-seven mile area. Groups who obtain licenses can provide community health information, local news, arts, foreign language programming or anything else the community organization would like to provide. The startup cost for a low power radio station can be as low as $10,000.
