Not necessarily.  The Internet is a public information highway.  If you do not want people to see what you are doing, you probably should not be doing it on the Internet.  Certainly many precautions can be taken.  For example, if you're shopping or banking online, make sure the transactions are run on a secure system (typically designated in your web browser by a lock or a key) that will ensure personal information, like a credit card, is safe and secure.  But most web sites and almost all email traffic is not similarly secured, so what you send and receive over the Internet could be visible to knowledgeable, but nosey, hackers.
