A newly-enpanled Federal Communications Commission wasted no time in getting busy on a bevy of important consumer issues at its first meeting on Thursday.
The commision voted unanimously to launch an inquiry into "whether there are additional opportunities to protect and empower American consumers by ensuring sufficient access to relevant information about communications services," a move which could ultimately lead to new regulations on such consumer-unfriendly practices as early termination fees and exclusive deals between service providers and cell phone makers.
The five-member commission also voted unanimously to begin an analysis of competitive conditions in the mobile wireless market, a move the panel says "seeks to better understand the net effects on the American consumer." In addition, the commission voted to launch a study to identify concrete steps it can take to support and encourage further innovation and investment in the wireless marketplace.

the new fcc chair, mark lloyd, thinks hugo chavez is a great and wonderful guy that has done wonderful things for venezuala (he and oliver stone should relocate there, permanently). he also thinks the government should have complete control of the airwaves, radio, tv, internet, cell phones - that kind of control worked real good in iran didn't it, when the populace protested the only way the world knew what was going on was because a few protestors didn't give up their cell phones. is that what you want? there are 33, 32 now, so-called czars, aka presidential 'advisors', one of them just got senate approval, did you know there was even going to be a vote? they did a workaround to get it done - if you don't watch real close, by the time you figure out what's going on they've done the 'smoke and mirrors', covered up and obfuscated the facts, get their 'spin doctors' take on it, then the coup de gras - the puppet/figurehead makes a speech and there you go - another power grab for big government. doesn't anybody remember charles manson was a 'charismatic', too - and he didn't even need a teleprompter.
I went to Sprint to sign up for two cell phones. In order to get the phones, I was forced to sign a two year contract with heavy penalties if I did not complete the two years of payments. When those two years are up, I will have no more to do with Sprint. One year would have been much more reasonable.
